The Zenamu Glossary helps you navigate the world of online bookings, class scheduling, and studio management. Here we explain not only common terms, but also yoga, dance, and fitness concepts that often appear in our system.

Acro Yoga

A playful style of yoga that blends elements of acrobatics, yoga, and partner work. Practiced in pairs, it builds trust, strength, and balance.

Aerobics

A dynamic workout focused on improving fitness, burning calories, and strengthening the whole body through rhythmic movements.

Asana

A physical yoga posture that benefits both body and mind. Each asana strengthens, stretches, and harmonizes the body.

Ashtanga Yoga

A dynamic style of yoga based on a set sequence of postures, linked together with breath and flowing movement (vinyasa).

Barre

A workout inspired by ballet that uses the ballet barre as a support for strength and flexibility training.

Bikram Yoga

A set sequence of 26 postures practiced in a heated room at around 40 °C (104 °F). It promotes flexibility, endurance, and detoxification.

Bolster

A long, firm pillow used in yoga and relaxation practices to support the body and encourage proper alignment.

Booking Calendar

A clear online calendar showing available classes and courses, where clients can easily reserve their spot.

Booking System

An online tool that makes it easy to book classes, courses, and services while managing schedules, payments, and client communication.

Booking

The process where a client secures a spot in a class, course, or workshop through the online system.

Cancellation Policy

The rules that determine how and when a client can cancel a booking and whether they are entitled to a credit or refund.

Chakra

An energy center in the body according to yoga and tantric tradition. The seven main chakras influence both physical and mental well-being.

Class Capacity

The maximum number of participants who can register for a specific class or course.

Class

A single training session or lesson led by an instructor. It can be open (drop-in) or part of a course.

Class Pass

A prepaid package (e.g., 10 entries or 1 month) that clients can use for classes of their choice.

Course

A series of classes held at regular intervals, designed for systematic skill development.

Contemporary Dance

A modern dance style that blends ballet technique, modern dance, and improvisation.

Credit System / Class Pack

A payment model where clients pre-purchase a set number of credits, which are then deducted with each booking. A popular alternative to memberships or unlimited passes.

CrossFit

An intense training program that combines elements of weightlifting, gymnastics, and conditioning. Its goal is the overall development of strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Dancehall

An energetic dance style from Jamaica, inspired by reggae and dancehall music.

Dance Style

A distinctive way of dancing with its own movements, technique, and atmosphere, reflecting both the music and the dancer’s personality.

Dashboard

The main control panel of a booking system with key information about classes, reservations, and payments.

DNS (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization)

A rehabilitation method developed by Professor Pavel Kolář, focused on proper muscle activation and movement patterns.

Drop-in Class (Open Class)

A one-time class that anyone can attend without a long-term commitment.

Fascia

A connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs, playing a key role in movement and posture.

Fitness Studio

A space designed for group classes and individual workouts focused on building strength and improving fitness.

GDPR and Personal Data

Compliance of the booking system with European legislation on the protection of clients’ personal data.

Google Calendar

An online calendar from Google that can be integrated with the booking system for automatic synchronization.

Gym (CrossFit Box, Fitness Center)

A place for training – from traditional gyms and fitness centers to CrossFit boxes. A space where people come together to exercise and push their limits.

H.E.A.T. Program

A group workout that simulates uphill walking on a special non-motorized treadmill. Great for fitness and weight loss.

Hatha Yoga

A traditional form of yoga focused on basic asanas, breathing exercises, and relaxation. Suitable for beginners.

Hip Hop

A dance style rooted in hip hop culture, with a strong focus on rhythm, freestyle, and expressive movement.

Hormone Yoga Therapy

A special style of yoga designed to support hormonal balance through asanas, breathing techniques, and relaxation.

Hot Yoga

Yoga classes practiced in a heated room, helping muscles stretch more deeply and promoting intense sweating.

House Dance

A dance style that grew out of club culture, known for its fast footwork and fluid improvisation.

Integration

Connecting the booking system with third-party services such as payment gateways, email marketing, accounting, or CRM tools.

Iyengar Yoga

A style of yoga that uses props (blocks, straps, bolsters) to achieve precise alignment in each posture.

Jivamukti Yoga

A modern style of yoga that combines asanas, music, meditation, and philosophy into a dynamic practice.

Jumping

Krump

Kundalini Yoga

Locking

Meditation

Membership

A type of subscription that gives clients access to a set number of classes, unlimited entry, or additional benefits.

Mindfulness

The practice of paying full attention to the present moment and consciously noticing the body, mind, and surroundings.

MTV Dance

A modern dance style inspired by choreography from music videos and live performances.

Mudra

A symbolic hand gesture used in yoga and meditation to direct energy and aid concentration.

Mysore Yoga

A traditional method of teaching Ashtanga yoga where each student practices their sequence at their own pace.

Namaste

A traditional Indian greeting paired with palms pressed together, expressing respect and gratitude.

Notifications

Automatic alerts (email, SMS, push messages) sent to clients regarding their bookings.

Om

A sacred syllable regarded as the sound of the universe. Often chanted to open or close a yoga class.

Online Class

A class delivered over the internet, allowing participation from anywhere using a computer or phone.

Online Payments

The ability to pay for bookings online by credit card, bank transfer, or through a payment gateway.

Open Class

A class open to everyone, without the need for prior registration or membership.

Payments

The ability to pay for classes, courses, or memberships in different ways—cash, card, bank transfer, or online.

Pilates

A training method focused on strengthening the core, improving posture, and increasing flexibility.

Pole Dance

A dance-based fitness practice on a pole, combining elements of acrobatics, dance, and gymnastics.

Port de Bras

A class inspired by ballet that combines graceful arm movements with strengthening and stretching exercises.

Power Yoga

A dynamic, strength-based style of yoga focused on stamina, endurance, and energy.

Power Plate

A vibration platform used for strength training, rehabilitation, and improving circulation.

Pranayama

Yogic breathing exercises that regulate life energy and support health.

Prenatal Yoga

A gentle form of yoga tailored to the needs of pregnant women, supporting both physical and emotional well-being.

Reformer

A specialized Pilates machine equipped with springs and a sliding carriage that allows for highly versatile training.

Restorative Yoga

A gentle style of yoga that uses props (bolsters, blankets, blocks) to support deep relaxation.

RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher)

An international certification for yoga teachers registered with Yoga Alliance.

Sadhana

A regular spiritual practice that may include meditation, asanas, breathing exercises, or chanting mantras.

Sanskrit

An ancient Indian language in which original yoga texts and asana names are written.

Savasana

A relaxation pose lying flat on the back, usually practiced at the end of a yoga session.

SM System (Smíšek Method)

A Czech rehabilitation method developed by Dr. Smíšek, focused on posture correction and back pain relief.

Spinning

A cardio workout on stationary bikes, usually guided by an instructor and set to music.

Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar)

A traditional sequence of yoga poses designed to warm up the body, build fitness, and connect breath with movement.

Studio Management

Comprehensive management of a yoga or fitness studio, covering bookings, clients, finances, and marketing.

Tadasana (Mountain Pose)

A foundational standing yoga posture that supports correct alignment and posture.

TRX

A suspension training system that uses body weight for a full-body workout.

TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises)

An exercise method focused on releasing stress and tension through natural bodily tremors.

Trial Class

A class designed for new clients who want to try a session before purchasing a pass or membership.

Ujjayi Breath

A yogic breathing technique that calms the mind and improves focus.

Vibrostation

A training device with a vibration platform that helps strengthen muscles and improve circulation.

Vinyasa

A smooth transition between yoga postures, synchronized with the breath. The foundation of dynamic yoga styles.

Voucher

A gift certificate for classes, courses, or memberships, often used as a client benefit.

Waiting List

A list of clients waiting for a spot in a fully booked class.

Waacking

A dance style inspired by the disco era of the 1970s, known for its dynamic arm movements and expressive flair.

Wellness

A holistic approach to health that embraces physical fitness, mental well-being, and a balanced lifestyle.

Yoga Alliance

An international organization that unites yoga teachers and schools and grants certifications such as RYT.

Yoga Instructor

A teacher who guides yoga classes, helping students with technique, breathing exercises, and relaxation.

Yoga

An ancient Indian practice that unites body, breath, and mind, leading to harmony and self-awareness.

Yoga Teacher Training

An educational program that leads to certification to teach yoga. Often accredited by Yoga Alliance or national institutions.

Yogi

A person who regularly practices yoga and develops both their physical and mental discipline.

Yoga Studio

A dedicated space for yoga, meditation, and related practices. Often also offers workshops and courses.

Yoga Therapy

A therapeutic approach that uses yoga principles to help prevent and address health challenges.

Yoga Mat

A mat used for yoga practice that provides comfort and stability during asanas.

Yin Yoga

Zumba
